The
Schwinn Continental Electric Bike
is top of the line with a 24-speed transmission for your
legs, and a 24V, 180 watts continuous; 250 watts max electric
hub motor in the front wheel, controlled by a throttle
on the handlebar which can propel the bike up to 18 mph.
Available range from the easily removable lithium-ion
battery on the rear rack is rated at 40 - 60 miles per
charge, depending on wind, terrain and load, and takes
4 hours to recharge.

Maintenance-free
shaft-drive system
The Schwinn Continental Electric Bike
is built using a streamlined alloy trekking frame and a clean
and maintenance-free shaft-drive system instead of a traditional
chain drive. The shaft drive system is simple in design and
hence very reliable. The drive uses chrome molybdenum bevel
gears front and rear all fully encased in a lightweight aluminum
housing. An
old school chain-drive looses efficiency quickly when it gets
dirty but with a shaft-drive, no dirt can get into the
system to create resistance and wear.
A
wide-range Shimano Nexus 7 internal hub drive train makes shifting
smooth and effortless. With the Shimano Nexus 7, you can shift
gears while pedaling or when at a stop so you have the correct
gear when you are ready to go. As if that wasn't cool enough,
the Schwinn Continental has internal electric cable routing
for a stealth look and added protection for electric/data cables
and connectors.
Super-light
Protanium® Lithium battery pack
Schwinn's choice for battery power is the Protanium® lithium
polymer battery, claiming to be the lightest and most durable
on the market weighing in at a little over 4 pounds,. One charge
will last 40 - 60 miles.
The size, weight and convenient positioning of the Schwinn Protanium®
battery gives the rider a battery they can charge, insert and
forget about. Like other lithium-ion batteries, it charges fully
in less than 4 hours and provides 100% power to the motor until
the point when the battery is fully depleted. The
Schwinn Protanium® battery will last approximately 500 -
600 charge cycles at 100 percent output. 24 volt Lithium battery
charger included.
