CAN-BUS UPGRADE - In early 2009, the Bionx System was
upgraded with a new, more robust internal communications network.
CAN (Control Area Network) was originally designed for automotive
applications like engine control, anti-lock braking and airbags
but is now being applied to the Bionx system to reduce communication
errors and increase performance and reliability.
Pre-2009
Bionx batteries, motors and consoles are not compatible with the
new CAN- BUS systems, however replacement components for pre-2009
systems will be available from Electric Cyclery for the foreseeable
future. Bionx replacement parts are only for use with Bionx systems.
Bionx
Rear Wheel Motors:
All Bionx motors come spoked into 20", 24",
26" and 700c rims.
Pre-2009 (I2C system) and CAN-BUS system motors
are available.

Battery Chargers:
Bionx Li-Mn battery chargers are available for
24 volt and 36 volt batteries. Chargers will work
with both pre-2009 (I2C system) and CAN-BUS systems.

Battery Mount and Cables:
Each Battery mount has two cables. One communication
cable goes from the battery up to the handlebar-mounted
console and a second set of communication and
power cables goes from the battery to the motor.
Standard cables should be long enough for most
bikes. Bionx battery mounts and cables are compatible
with pre-2009 (I2C system) and CAN-BUS systems.
