With
speeds over 25 mph, the new PL500HS (High Speed)
Bionx kit gets the adrenaline pumping. The 500
watt electric hub motor has less torque and hill climbing
power than Bionx's 350 watt motor but really moves out on
flat ground. An excellent choice for long rides and roads
where you want to keep up with traffic.

Bikes converted with the Bionx PL500HS are only street legal
in California and need to be registered as a motorized bicycle
using DMV form REG
230. California DMV registration requires a
one-time registration fee of $18 and in 4 to 6 weeks you
will receive mini-plates that need to be attached to the
bicycle. A valid driver's license and DOT helmet are also
required.
Sales
of the PL500 are currently restricted to in-store purchases
and shipping to California addresses only. Hopefully other
states will soon follow California's lead and allow the
registration of high speed (under 30 mph) electric bicycles.
The
Bionx PL500 kit includes, a spoked wheel with motor,

The Control Console controls four assistance levels.
The analog display indicates power supplied by the
battery.
Re-Generative: The analog display
indicates energy transmitted to the battery. The
console includes a multifunctional odometer that displays
the following information:
current speed
distance traveled
odometer
trip
meter
average speed
The
control console also includes a battery charge indicator
that helps you manage the battery charge in order
to prevent running out of energy on the return trip.
The
console includes an alarm system with a 4-digit
PIN (personal identification number). When the alarm
system is activated, two wheel turns are enough to
set it off. From that moment, the motor goes into
generative mode 4 and the alarm sounds.

Motor Installation
Every kit includes a wheel with the motor spoked in
so the Bionx power system can be installed on most
bicycles simply by replacing the rear wheel of your
bicycle with the BionX wheel and wheel motor. The
BionX system can be installed on a tandem, folding
bike, recumbent, recumbent trike - basically any bicycle
with an 9-speed rear derailleur or smaller.
The
Bionx Motor is ultra-efficient.
The Bionx system is powered by a lightweight, zero
maintenance 500 watt motor with pedal assist and thumb
throttle. It is equipped with magnetic field drive
technology and there is no friction inside the motor,
thus no wear.

The super-light lithium-ion battery pack will take
you up to 55 miles depending on assistance levels
and can be charged in 3 hours.
The
Bionx systems require a thread-on freewheel for rear
wheel gearing. If you are unsure as to what
size freewheel is needed, simply count the number
of sprockets on the rear wheel. Electric Cyclery customers
have the option of ordering a 7, 8, or 9 speed freewheel
with any of the Bionx conversion kits on checkout.
